Abstract
The increasing volume of textile waste has become an environmental concern, highlighting the need to better understand household practices related to textile waste behavior. This study examines households’ behavior regarding the disposal of unused clothes and compares it by residential locality and access to textile waste facilities. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted among 200 respondents from several regions in Malaysia. Descriptive statistics, an independent-samples t-test, and one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used to analyze the data. The findings indicate a significant difference in household textile waste behavior based on access to textile waste facilities, whereas no significant difference was found between urban and rural respondents. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening public awareness of proper textile waste management and improving access to textile collection and recycling activities. This study also highlights the need for stronger policy interventions, including more accessible textile waste infrastructure and the implementation of extended producer responsibility initiatives. Overall, this study provides useful insights for policymakers and environmental stakeholders seeking to promote more sustainable household textile waste management practices in Malaysia.
